Silk is known as the queen of bres - known as a luxury textile. 1000 yards of silk - it takes 110 cocoons to make one silk tie. Italian silk industry began as early as the 13th century. China, india and japan are now chief producers - china produces 50% of the silk bre market. Silk is off white or cream and wild silk is brown. Colour is determined by what silk worm eats. Silk is identi ed by soft and brilliant sheen. Silk bres are triangular in shape w/ rounded corners - re ect light like a prism. Sericulture: the production of cultivated silk - sericin: the sticky coating on silk bres painting shape of cocoon.
