Document Summary

We started by modeling the demand/supply market for the exchange of sex. We started with a baseline price of zero for an equilibrium quantity (as an example the quantity was twice a week). An increase in social value of virginity and abstinence (negative stigmatization of promiscuity) would be modeled as an increase in mc, or a decrease in supply. This would lead to a shortage at the zero-price followed by a fall in quantity and rise in price of exchange that the demander would have to pay the supplier. The second, separate shock was an increase in social value around sexual conquests. We modeled that shock as an increase in the mb of sex, or a shift right in the demand curve. This would also lead to a shortage at the zero exchange price, force the price to rise and quantity to increase. We then considered what would happen if both shocks occurred at once.
