Document Summary

Created solution focused therapy in early 1980s by steve de shazer and insoo kim. Incorporated milton erickson"s work of language, metaphor, and hypnosis. Focused on solutions rather than problems, what have gone right in client"s live rather than what has gone wrong. People have the ability to work through their own problems. People are free to make choices and not victims of their genetics or environment. Counselling should be shifted to positive outlook. Clients do better with a present and future counseling orientation. Do not need to have specifics, causes, functions of problem in order to resolve it. Develop a working alliance to attack the problem. Identify client"s strengths as a foundation for confidence in their abilities to make positive changes. Establish clear, concrete, measurable goals in order to evaluate progress. People respond better to building up positive aspects of lives. Solutions-focused counselors believe people"s problems result from behaviour based on their view of the wold.
