Sexual abuse extends to using a child for the sexual gratification of the offender, exposing the child to sexual contact, activity or behaviour. Forms of sexual abuse include oral, anal, genital contact or anal/vaginal penetration, fondling or sexual stimulation. It also applies to exploitation, exposure to pornography and inappropriate solicitation. Sexual abuse is usually contextualized in intrafamilial or extrafamilial frameworks, in other words committed either by a perpetrator within or outside of the victim(cid:495)s familial network. Irrespective of familial connection, the majority of abusers in child sex abuse cases are male (fischer and mcdonald, 1998, p. 925). The cis 2008 reports that sexual abuse accounted for 2,607 or 3% of substantiated cased. Amongst non- parental figures, perpetrators were most often the child(cid:495)s friend (cid:523)(cid:883)5%(cid:524), followed by other acquaintances (cid:523)9%(cid:524) and parent(cid:495)s boyfriend or girlfriend (cid:523)5%(cid:524) (cid:523)fallon, lajoie et al. Intrafamilial refers to a victim who is abused by someone in the family such as parents, siblings, stepparents and other blood relatives.
