Social structure theory: focus on the efects of class straiicaion in society: social disorganizaion theory. Lack of cohesiveness, transiency and anomie: strain theory. Focus on the conlict caused by barriers in reaching goals through legiimate means: cultural deviance theory. Criminal behaviour is in conformity to lower-class subcultural values. Argues certain members of a lower class have certain subcultural values that guide their behaviour. People who live in disorganized neighborhoods develop a set of subcultural values based on experiences living in these type of neighborhoods. High unemployment, single-parent families, dependence on social assistance, substandard housing. As gangs became more of a ixed insituion we see that deviant morals and values are being passed down generaions. Recruit new members, pass on delinquent tradiions: cultural transmiion. Concentraion afect: isolated from social mainstream, becomes a gheto.
