77% of convictions don"t actually lead people being set into incarceration. Probation: serve time outside of prison such as in community centers. Suspend sentence: gives people a period of time to be on probation and if they abide by the rules during that period then there conviction is absolved. It is extremely costly to keep an inmate in prison. Prisons are not the ideal setting for rehabilitation to take place. Prison sentence of ones records creates a social stigma hard for them to. There has been a cost reduction for prisons- they are not receiving as much restart their life after they are released money and they were before. Offered for minor but serious acts of crime. Not available to murders or sex offenders. You are guided by a probation officer. They will help you find services in the community that will help you such as support groups, job training and educational opportunities.
