Skeletal attached to skeleton, is striated and voluntarily. Smooth on the walls of hollow organs, not striated and involuntarily. Cardiac forms the heart, is striated and involuntarily. Myo, mys and sarco prefixes for muscle. Produce movement of bones or fluid (eg. blood) Excitability (responsiveness), contractility, extensibility, elasticity: skeletal muscle. 9. 2 made up of: muscle fibers, nerves & blood vessels, and connective tissues. Nerves & blood supply: one nerve, one artery and one or two veins enter (or exit) near the center of each muscle. Every muscle fiber is supplied with nerve ending to control activity. Rich blood supply b/c contracting muscle fibers use large amounts of energy & require continuous delivery of oxygen & nutrients via arteries. Origin = attachment site of muscle on bone that is less moveable. 9. 3 skeletal muscle fiber contain calcium-regulated molecular motors. H band (lighter region within a bands) and m line in the center formed by myosin.
