Tension is present within this relationship as a result of the differing goals wants and expectations on part of the employer and the employee. Tension also arises between the difference in wants and interest both the employee and employer obtain: identify the main pressures that the market brings to the employer labour process employee relationship. Employers main pressures: they are expected to control and minimize costs including the employees rewards and or increase the output of the employees means which means an increase in their effort and impairment. Employer"s response: they tend to introduce organization and technological change to increase efficiency, and productivity. Employees main pressures: encourage them to try to maximize their intrinsic and extrinsic rewards which impacts the employers design and operation of the production process. Social forces: gender, racial/ethnic background, education, family dynamics, residence, media exposure, cultural experience. Example of peasants and bourgeois (bottom of pg 94).
