Document Summary
Interpersonal theory of suicide: si comes out of thwarted belongingness and perceived burdensomeness, and hopelessness surrounding those factors these are intra-personal factors, seems to be independent of context, which can be especially important for minority groups. Interacting systems at different levels play important role in suicide. Intersections between characteristics, identities, pressures, etc. across different levels are critical to consider: discrimination/racism from immediate surroundings send message bipoc don"t belong. Racial and ethnic identity: ~80% of suicide occur in low- and middle-income countries, highest rates among people under 30, but most research and theories developed around high-income countries, suicide is different among bipoc. In canada: suicide rate for indigenous male youth (15-24) ~126/100,000 and for female youth ~35/100,000. Sexual and gender identity: being trans, female, black, etc. not a risk factor for suicide in itself are characteristics of identity that attract discrimination, racism, targeted behaviours that increase risk factor for suicide.
