PSYC 271 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Globus Pallidus, Commissure, Electron Microscope
Document Summary
Nervous system: central nervous system (brain & spinal cord, peripheral nervous system (somatic nervous system & autonomic nervous system) Brings information to the cns and carries information out of the cns. Somatic nervous system: afferent nerves (sensory - bring) & efferent nerves (motor - escape) Autonomic nervous system: sympathetic nerves (efferent, fight or flight, energy mobilization) & parasympathetic nerves (efferent, rest/relax, energy conservation) Meninges, ventricles & cerebrospinal fluid (csf: the cns is protected in bone with 3 protective membranes (meninges) Pia mater: pious mother holds to cns surface / very tight wrap around brain: cerebrospinal fluid. Is produced by the choroid plexuses that protrude into the ventricles from pia mater. Between the top two hemispheres of the brain. The blood-brain barrier: very tightly packed blood vessel walls stop many molecules from coming in. We have alleles that hang onto these for nutrients.
