Polar are attracted to each other, same with nonpolar. polar molecules form hydrogen bonds (ie in water), strong connection therefore high boiling point. back to the cells: Lipids have a polar and a non polar side (polar on inside, nonpolar outside), which creates the membrane that controls what goes in or out. How do things cross the membrane? diffusion. molecules move along concentration radiant (equilibrate high/low concentration). Oxygen moves from high concentration in lungs to low concentration in blood (deoxygenated blood) and then to the cells. Diffusion also allows things to cross in a passive way (no energy). it also works with facilitated diffusion (canal transport). transport in/out the cell.
