Job of the brain: electric signals an idea. Doctrine of specific nerve energies: johannes muler (1835, sensation are pathways that lead to determining our perception on things, sensation is not the origin. Sensation: sight, hearing, taste (gustatory, smell (olfactory), touch (somatosensory, body awareness (proprioception, balance (vestibular) All the information travels from peripheral nervous system central nervous system and vice versa. The body receives sensory input from different locations. Adaptation: when your receptors become lazy and tired, eg. When exposed to a reoccurring stimulus, your receptors become tired of being interested in the same stimuli so it gets bored . Neural codes: how information is represented from the way the signals travel. Population code: how we identify objects through our receptors.
