Document Summary
Differential approach: an approach in psychology devoted to tests and measures of individual differences in various psychological properties, including people"s abilities to solve problems. Sir francis galton: believed intelligence was hereditary and since intelligence was based on biology there would be no need to spend money on schooling the less intelligent. He inspired the creation of the correlation coefficient (a test statistic) and tried to find relationships between various measures and intelligence but was unsuccessful. Factor analysis: statistical analysis that examines all of the correlations between all of the items and determines if any of them are highly correlated with each other. Invented by charles spearman. (a mother can conclude that the lumps under a blanket is a sleeping child). G=general intelligence: because all measures of intelligence showed a correlation, Spearman reasoned that they all must reflect a common factor of intelligence which he referred to as general intelligence (g).
