Intensity depends directly on amplitude: amplitude is the height from a crest (top) to a trough (bottom) of the light wave, higher amplitude waves are perceived as brighter. Intensity corresponds to the psychological property of brightness. What do photoreceptors detect: dark adaptation: when we move from bright to dark conditions, our eyes adjust gradually to become more sensitive.
