Document Summary
After working through this lesson"s material, you should be able to: Describe the role of hope, expectation and support in recovery. Identify which types of treatment are most commonly used for which disorders. Describes the steps necessary to select the best treatment. It has been estimated that mental illness costs the canadian government up to billion per year, both in direct treatment costs and in indirect costs associated with lost productivity. One reason for the huge economic burden of mental illness is that most mental illnesses are chronic and recurrent, persisting over the individual"s lifetime. For this reason, early identification and treatment of individuals with these illnesses is crucial to preventing what can be a lifelong course of disorder. People have tried many different treatments for psychological disorders, ranging from drilling holes in their skulls (trephining) to freud"s famous psychoanalytic treatment to drug treatments and behaviour modification treatments.
