Document Summary
Personality- pattern of thinking and interacting that is unique to each individual and remains relatively consistent over time and across situations. A particular pattern of behaviour and thinking that prevails across time and situations and differentiates one person from another. Stable throughout adulthood and increases in stability with age: major life events or brain damage can change that. Personality is affected by the interactions between genetics and environment: an individual who is difficult tends to elicit negative feedback on others creating a more negative environment. Id (i want it now: ego (lets work out a compromise, superego (good people do(cid:374)"t do that) Most conflicts are between the id and superego, mediated by the ego: kept from conscious awareness by defense mechanisms. Personality is the group of learned habits and responses due to operant and classical conditioning. Characteristics are patterns shaped and formed by the environment. Thoughts and cognition do not play a role.
