Legal positivism: legality is justice (thrasymachus, hobbes, bentham) To see an apple, you need 3 things: sight, the object (apple, light (sun) To think about something you need 3 things: vision, the object to think about, notion of goodness (sun) When one is let out he realizes what he thought was one thing (shadows), is something else. He sees the light and is enlightened by goodness. Moral: your environment and ideas limit your perception. Says that to be a philosopher, you must engage in the polis. Balances the three parts of the soul: logical, spiritual, appetite. Balances the three parts of the city: rulers, soldiers, workers. Values of the city: wisdom, courage, self discipline. Justice is when everything remains in its place. For balance in the city, everyone must remain in his or her role.
