Document Summary
Genocide: an extreme form of "difference elimination" Un convention on the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide was approved by. Article 1: genocide is a crime under international law which they undertake to prevent and punish (regardless if committed in time of peace or war). Un definition is too broad, includes things that isn"t usually recognized as genocide. Un definition is also too narrow because it only talks about ethnic/racial/religious groups. Cannot be because you need to commit the crime to do the time. Can be done through industrial and modern efficiency (i. e. holocaust) but isn"t the only way to eliminate a group. Globalized trade (modern aspect of human life) is a huge factor for weaponry. Elements of modernity are present in every genocide (i. e. identification, guns, gas chambers, ghettos, etc. Authoritarian or totalitarian states (19th century us or communist china) Serial murderers/repeat offenders (genocide occurs more than once in certain countries).
