Incubation period: period of time you are exposed but no clinical symptoms are shown. Acute phase: maximal clinical symptoms (considered contagious if pustules or chicken pox is open) Occurs primarily in children under 15 years of age. Persistent high fever for 3-4 days (otherwise appears well) After fever subsides, rash appears (first on trunk, then face & extremities) Short rapid coughs followed by crowing or whoop sound (younger children may not whoop but still test positive) Usually gets worse at night: want to take them out; want colder environment since it decreases swelling o. Putting them in shower is not good bc it will vasodilate and produce more mucous. Incubation period: 10-20 days; communicability from 4 days before to 5 days after appearance of rash.
