Document Summary

Rag time- rag time is the bridge between the wind band and early jazz. Wind band after us civil war- 1860 onwards. One of the most popular marching bands at that time. Mix between wind band and early jazz which was born in the south. Trio- a softer relaxed part of a song that is in another key. Song sample: maple leaf rag by scott jopling. Not every note is on the sheet music in ragtime, some notes are improvised. March- two beat feel, not a as large of a range as ragtime. It makes sense for a march to have a two beat feel because you walk to it. Has a trio section-played in a different key, different music, a little more relaxed. Different: two beat feel, 16-bar strains (or sections, trio section-different music, more relaxed, relieve tension, both are written down.
