(e. g. , arthritis in old people) As we age structural constraints will influence us, Reaching: movements that allow individual to grasp objects. Grasping: act of grasping an object, usually with hand(s) Research study: halverson (1931) and hohlstein (1982) Halverson suggested that we have this developmental progression that people go through. Hohlstein did a follow up of halverson"s study, but gave people objects of different sizes to grasp, instead of just one size. Implication: not only the maturational perspective influence our progression, many things like environment for example, also influences reaching: body scaling. Grip movements are body scaled (newell et al. , 1989) Key hand size relative to body size.
