Hard to maintain emotional, social, physical wellness if one is not psychologically healthy. Capacity to think, feel, and behave in ways that contribute to our ability to enjoy life and manage challenges. Supported or sabotaged by factors (dietary choices, sleep patterns, relationship issues) Positive definition: presence of wellness, encourage one to fulfill their own potential. Hierarchy of needs: physiological needs, safety, being loved, maintaining self-esteem, self-actualization. Once one need is met, we are driven by higher motives. Not psychological normality- which means close to average, ideas and attitudes can change without feeling emotional distress- psychological diversity. Can"t say those who don"t seek help are mentally healthier than those that do, if they don"t show symptoms (ex: anxiety), or by the way people look- silence can prevent people from getting help. Identity that enhances our spiritual wellness, self-esteem, autonomy- communicate honestly, handle anger, loneliness appropriately and avoid defensiveness.
