Nutritious food basket (nfb) is a survey tool used to measure the cost of eating according to current nutrition recommendations and food consumption data. Includes 67 food items in in food guide. Does not include processed convenience foods, soft drinks, popular snack foods, special dietary foods, infant foods, religious or cultural foods, soap, shampoo, toilet paper or other personal items that people might add to their shopping cart. Purpose: support resolutions on issue of basic income guarantee (big), being submitted to the alpha and opha in 2015. Big = a cash transfer from government to citizens not tied to labour market participation. Ensures income at a level sufficient to meet basic needs and live with dignity. Negative income tax model: relies on tax system as vehicle for administering a basic income guarantee. Three basic elements: the benefit level, the reduction rate and the break-even level. Universal demogrant model: provision of a regular payment to every citizen.
