A: in general some variables or attributes are appropriately applied to the individual (income, for example) and some are only appropriately applied to a population (income distribution for example). Some variables are inherently features of collectivities and cannot be applied to persons. Collective variables characterize a whole, not parts just as my health as a whole person has to be distinguished between the health of my cells. If you analyze the variables wrongly the entire research project will fail. A: biomedical variant, which focuses on the interaction of host and agent and behavioural variant which emphasizes health behaviour (lifestyle factors). If we know the risk actors then we must be able to understand the host"s susceptibility to disease. The shortcomings are that there are problems with specifying susceptibility or resilience based on sex, age, gender, etc because sometimes stats are misleading among these things.
