Document Summary

Discussion: museumology as a theory, and the practical theory about it. They would collect stuff as they went around the world. They wanted to show it off to their friends, they"d have little cabinets, cabinets of curiosity, these are the beginning of the museum, some might display stuffed birds, pressed flowers A collection like this would show you were sophisticated, educated and wealthy enough to go on these trips. As more people became interested in collecting stuff, the collections became bigger, and the more accessible travel became, you come home with truck loads of stuff, put collections in a special place, and the museum was born. What was presented in these museums was a top down view of history. The way museums looked were meant to impress, intimidate you, you were a schmuck with no education, you were there to be impressed. Most museums are not meant to awe you per say anymore.
