Document Summary

Minutes of the meeting of the black book literary commission, 1944 (ehrenburg), 351-2. Letter from aleksandrov to zhdanov concerning the black book, 1947, 365-66. Late stalinism, the punished peoples, and the cold war. War as the test of the power and testimonial of the population. New basis for the identification with the soviet power- even though it did not go the best possible way in first months, the war ended as a victory for soviet-styled, stalinist socialism. The war was also presented with various nationalities of the ussr in mind; medals awarded to those who fought for the country, from various sources. Creates new basis for identification within the state, and inclusion and exclusion. We haven"t left the war yet in that sense, so i"d like to begin the lecture with the new categorisation of enemies, and works that began against them. No liberalisation on horizon hopes quickly dashed in postwar period.
