The civil war and the foundations of the new regime. In this lecture : the democratic counter-revolution , the peasant revolution, the civil war and the whites, the reds, the dictatorship of the party, red terror, the dictatorship of the proletariat. Initially the bolsheviks seize power but its not clear if it"s going to hold, or if the power will become a stable thing. The armies depended not only on savvy leadership, but on popular support. In a country that was still 80% peasant, the success of the two factions will depend on their ability to mobilize and gain the support of the peasantry. Fought in multiple feeders geographically, with multiple sets of opponents going at around 3 years. In the first year, bolsheviks vs the srs and mensheviks.
