The cotton gin: 1794 cotton gin created, creates much faster processing times, 1 slave took 10h to produce 1lb. of bre prior to cotton gin creation. Abolitionist movement: placed the south on the defensive with statements like it is sanctioned by god, proven by science, etc. Slaveholder south: considered to be a gentleman"s society . Racism as a factor: many non slaveholders were against slavery, however saw it as a way to maintain. White supremacy, which in their opinion is more value: john c. calhoun, 7th vice-president of the usa, and a major pro-slavery advocate. Tuesday, september 27, 2016: idea that all slaves are descendants of ham. !3: suggested that medically it could be dangerous for a slave to be free, thomas cobb: suggested that because red ants capture and kill black ants that blacks are clearly inferior .
