Panopticons, poverty, and power: liberal order comes to kingston. 500 inmates had been assembled, they had been gathered in the pen to witness a flogging of. He had entered in 1845 for seven years, he was meant to be flogged with the cat-o"- nine tails for an infraction. He momentarily broke the silence by laughing, there was an enforced rule of silence. In the short span of 8 months he had been lashed 67 or so times. The parliament building was created in 1841 after the act of union, which would later become part of kingston general hospital. It was a reward to the people of king"s town for not taking part and staying loyal during the rebellions, 1837, 1838. Local boosters predicted that 8 million settlers would live north of kingston as they were all filled with optimism. He lived on the outskirts of kingston in alwington.
