Consumer demand was big, but not big enough to keep with the overproduction and expansion. Eaton"s was first department store: massive: used slave labour. Present - universities increase tuition to make up for their overspending. Like in the 30s, we protest, but we lose: regional disparities. Gave 20 million dollars to the provinces for financial aid. Never enough small projects for wages o. Most canadians tries to avoid going on unemployment relief: you had to apply and prove to a council that you are broke. Would receive 2 weeks of supplies, but had to line up for 2 hours at the office. Some people were given food vouchers instead of money: for certain items only.
