No cookie cutter model of development, all countries and there resources are very different and the same model should not actually work. Increased landmass and resources the territory controls b/c increased power. Direct rule or control in one territory or another. Looks and sounds a lot like imperialism, however it is a tool of imperialism. A good example of this is settler colonialism, a method to create an empire. Another example were the missionaries, an attempt to erase the pre-existing culture. Most of the time colonialism includes violence. Once a developing nation achieves independence, they are still controlled and exploited by the developed. Some examples are african nations in debt, a form of neo-colonialism b/c it is the debt control, which is essentially blackmail, to the african nations. Walmart and mcdonalds are also a form neo-colonialism b/c western businesses are controlling the global south. Languages, and the move towards english, and how english is becoming a standard for future success.
