Geol104 lecture 16 sedimentary to metamorphism: right after reading week during lab section, 30 rocks/minerals to name, all samples have been from labs, 50 multiple choice from mainly lectures and textbook somewhat, questions should take approx. 30min: get 2hours for the whole thing, will have all the normal tools used for identifying, don"t get the triangle diagram for naming granitic rocks. Labs: lab answers are posted on the bulletin board in the lab room. Formed from movement of water across surface. Material moved up and down over the ripples, continually forming bigger ones and more. Water movement perpendicular to ripple marks: mud cracks. Happens right at surface in marine environments. Water evaporates, clay deposited from water retracts and produces cracks. Wet and muddy area that was covered in sea water. Dried out and developed cracks: fossils. Dinosaur tracks left behind in the mud. Things like trilobites found in remnants of sea floor mud.
