Width of aureole depends on depth, temperature, size and composition of the intrusiomn as well as composition of the surrounding country rock. Metamorphic intensity decreases with distance away from the pluton. Contact metamorphic rocks are massive, not foliated. Pure minerals cant form new minerals, but impure ones can. Higher intensity, the closer you are to a pluton. Halo is used for extremely minor baked zone. Mst metamorphic rock results from regionalmetamorphism which occurs over a large. Formed by high temperatures and pressure deep within the crust, often at roots of area mountain belts. Size and shape of mineral grains determes whether foliation is fine or coarse. When rocks are subjected to differentual pressure, the mineral grains are typically arranged in a parralel fashon, producing a foliated texture. Foliation may occur as a result of rhe rotation of platy minerals due to directed pressure. Spherical particles become elongated due to differential stress.
