It should note that caere still thrived as a roman city. When rome conquers veii it is 2x as big as any other city in italy beginning of the expansion. Reality is that veii and rome probably merged in a less violent way than the 10-year siege livy depicted (probably a negotiation) Veii had long been the quintessential enemy of rome. Caere, in contrast with veii, was the quintessential friend of rome. It was the second closest city to rome in etruria. Roman sources depicted caere in terms almost opposite from veii.
