Hard core optimism vs hard core pessimism. Halloween (cid:862)flight from death(cid:863) a strange concept; a desire to celebrate that which we fear. More people have been killed in the name of god and country than all of the serial killers combined. We commit the greatest evil by trying to escape from evil. Our response to death is central to our desire for meaning beyond ourself just reiterating the message from past lectures. Leisure is a self impermanence anxiety buffer as well. Humans have unparalleled cognitive skills for accomplishments but at the same time we are easily distracted from and deluded about what we are. This was in the best interests of our ancestors genes lead ot the concept of seeking to leave a leg(cid:272)y th(cid:396)ough des(cid:272)e(cid:374)de(cid:374)ts. (cid:862)e(cid:448)olutio(cid:374) (cid:271)y (cid:374)atu(cid:396)al sele(cid:272)tio(cid:374) t(cid:396)a(cid:272)ks o(cid:374)ly fit(cid:374)ess (cid:374)ot t(cid:396)uth(cid:863) So in spite of our great cognitive power we are creatures that are subject to delusion optical illusion despite our vision.
