Document Summary

Birds are second most speciose ater ish. Geneic analyses of birds reveal reproducive isolaion and new species. Muliple niches (ecology) highly vagile, can get to every remote locaion/anywhere. Sexual selecion on signals for reproducive isolaion: physical diferences between the sexes arising form male-male compeiion and female compeiion. Birds use visual and acousic signals (smell not good: detect diverse plumage, have excellent colour vision, see huge spectrum of uv, 4 cone types, size of bill, size of body darwin"s inches, songs. Even small changes in signal structure can lead to change. Learning: complex informaion transmission, local adaptaion (geneic, habitat, mate choice (quality, relatedness, slight changes in songs/song learning can alter mate choice. Highly variable learning and songs = highly speciose. Describe the key avian anatomical and physiological adaptaions for light. Therapsids mammal-like repiles: arose before massive exincion. Pelycosaurs: early synapsids, arose in late carboniferous, radiated through permian, then exinct, herbivores and carnivores, back sail (dorsal feature)
