Document Summary

Most cephalopods have a single colour pigment and are colour blind. Exception the firefly squid: has chromatophores which allow you to change pigmentation, also bioluminescent. Photophores: bioluminescent organs on the body"s surface; do not change like the chromatophores. Generating their own light so they don"t make a silhouette to predator"s from below. Most abundant species with 1 million different species. Molting lifecycle has many implications on things that can and can"t be done. Analogous traits: segmentation not related to worms or vertebrates, example: in the worms every organ was repeated in each segment; arthropods do not have repeated organs (except for appendages and accompanying nerve system, segments are fused together. Chitinous exoskeleton: means the animal must molt in order to grow, allows a different way for them to, have a different way of moving and create physical structures defending themselves.
