Yenni crab kiwa hirsuta: discovered in 2005, typically found on ocean floors near methane/sulfur vents, has fine filamentous (hard) cetae that house a bacterial culture, use a special motion to harvest bacteria into the cetae. 95% of all animals are invertebrates (cnidarians, insects, etc. ) Invertebrates can be food to humans and other organisms: tapeworms, elephantiasis nematodes in the lymphatic system, vectors (or hosts) malaria, etc. Medicine: chemotherapy drug from coral, poisons anti-predator defense mechanisms, alternative pain killers to opiates. Good use in research: organism data easily generalizable to populations, invasive species, evolution of aging, sexual conflict, neurobiology, population dynamics, hormone control over development. Functional diversity is high: feeding, respiration, locomotion, reproduction.
