ANAT 216 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Urinary Bladder, Internal Sphincter Muscle Of Urethra, Lamina Propria
Document Summary
Gross anatomy: long muscular tubes connecting the kidneys to the bladder they begin as a continuation of the renal pelvis at the level of l2 retroperitoneal and secured to the posterior abdominal wall. Contractions triggered by stretch receptors in the wall of the ureters. Gross anatomy: collapsible, muscular sac temporary storage for urine retroperitoneal organ in the pelvic cavity. Inside = introperitineal, outside = retroperitineal in males it is located behind the pubic symphysis and in front of the rectum in females it lies under the uterus and in front of the vagina. Very distensible, highly suited for storing urine. When it is empty, it is collapsed, it"s thick wall, primarily mucosa is thrown into rugae. When it expands, and is full, it protrudes up into abdominal cavity, muscularis stretches and thins out, rugae disappear, allows bladder to contain lots of urine without huge increase in pressure. 500 ml or urine is normal, but when full, it can double that.
