Special senses: the eye/vision (reading material: chapter 18 pages 491-500) Accessory structures of the eyeball (orbicularis oculi circular muscle surrounding eyeball. Palpebral fissure space between upper and lower eyelid. Caruncle fleshy projection of medial canthus: glands of caruncle produce eye gunk. Glands localized swelling resulting in a sty. Palpebrae and ocular produce mucous to prevent eye from drying out. Larcimal apparatus consists of all the ducts that function to distribute and remove tears from our eyes: lacrimal secretion diluted saline solution. Gland, canal, sac, nasolacrimal duct delivers tears into nasal cavity. Superior(cn iii), inferior(cn iii), medial(cn iii), and lateral( innervated by cn vi) rectus. Structure of the eyeball hollow sphere occupied by fluid. Fibrous tunic outermost layer composed of dense connective tissue. Sclera makes up posterior 5/6 of the fibrous tunic: opaque and white (seen as the white of your eye anteriorly, point of attachment for extrinsic eye muscles.
