Chapter 6 bones of the lower limb. Bones of the lower limb: femur, tibia and fibula, bones of foot. Bony framework of upper and lower limbs similar. Femur is largest and strongest bone in body, this is the upper limb. Most distal part of lower limb are 26 bones of foot (tarsals, metatarsals, phalanges) Most proximal joint is hip joint between pelvic bone and femur. Knee joint is between the thigh and leg. Ankle joint is between the leg and foot. Pelvic girdle pelvic bone, hip bone, innominate bone, coxal bone, there are many names. Comprised of 2 bones left and right pelvic bone. Joined anteriorly by pubic symphysis, a cartilaginous joint where not much movement happens but there is a tiny bit of flexibility. Joined posteriorly, attach to the sacrum makes the sacro-iliac joint, strong joint where little flexibility occurs. Originates as 3 individual bones which fuse at the acetabulum:
