ANAT 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Cervical Canal, Endometrium, Serous Membrane
Document Summary
Anat 100: sperm: reproductive cells that carry paternal genetic information for reproduction, head: flat and oval. Contributes either x or y chromosome to fertilization process. Oval shaped glands 4-5cm long and 2. 5-3cm in diameter. Covered in two layers: tunica vaginalis: outer protective covering. Extension of protective covering in abdominal cavity: tunica albuginea: inner fibrous coat or capsule. Extensions from tunica albuginea penetrate into testes dividing it into 200-300 compartments, known as lobules. Each lobule contains up to four thin and elongated seminiferous tubules: seminiferous tubules: produce sperm. In loose connective tissue between tubules, leydig cells are found, which produce and secrete testosterone: scrotum: sac of skin and fascia surrounding testes. Derived from anterior abdominal wall and resides outside abdominopelvic cavity: dartos muscle: more superficial, located in skin of scrotum. Responsible for rugose (wrinkly) appearance of scrotal sac: cremaster muscle: deep in scrotal wall. Moves testes and scrotum towards and away from body to help regulate temperature of testes.
