Describe how the following two components of critical thinking contribute to nurses" effectiveness: specific knowledge base: information from basic science, humanities, behaviour science and nursing. Ex: school: experience: gaining experience in doing clinicals allows for the nurse to use specific knowledge but also adapt it to the patient"s needs. Describe critical thinking competencies of: scientific method: systemic approach used to determine if a set of facts are true. Identify the problem: collect data, form a hypothesis or research question, test hypothesis, evaluate results: conclusion, problem solving: obtain information and use the information and research to find a solution. The nurse uses patient data to logically explain a clinical judgment. Ex: a patient has a type ii ulcer for laying on the bed in one position for too long: clinical decision making: defining patient problems and finding a solution. Interpreting the situation to be able to respond to it: noticing or grasping the situation, responding, reflecting on response.
