Obesity can increase a person"s risk of developing cvd by 50% (bmi > or = 30) Damage to the heart, the blood vessels of the heart and the system of the blood vessels (veins and arteries) throughout the body and within the brain. Root cause of most cvd is atherosclerosis ( hardening of the arteries ) Gradual may take decades to develop. Narrowing of arteries leads to poor blood flow. Sudden heart tissue death caused by blood vessel blockage: thrombus blood clot, embolism mobile blood clot. Stroke occurs if the flow of oxygen-rich blood to a portion of the brain is blocked.
