Root cause of most cvd is atherosclerosis ( hardening of the arteries ) Gradual may take decades to develop. Narrowing of arteries leads to poor blood flow. Sudden heart tissue death caused by blood vessel blockage: thrombus blood clot, embolism mobile blood clot. Stroke occurs if the flow of oxygen-rich blood to a portion of the brain is blocked. Without oxygen, brain cells start to die after a few minutes.
