Bazin says cinema is moving toward increased realism. Begins in 20s and moves through 30s and 40s - is present in 50s: notices an evolution of cinema over time. Inevitable that cinema will progress to a greater reality. Asymptote: a line that continually approaches a given curve but does not meet it (cinema is approaching realism but it can never become reality - moves closer and closer towards it)
