Gossip becomes very graphic - as it progresses hitchcock pans and stops on alice on the word knife - cuts to a close up of alice when the word is said again. Gossip"s words become mumbled and we only hear the word knife. As she reaches for the bread knife it leaps from her hand - hitchcock show everyone in the room then progressively closes in on alice (cause effect response) 4th: use of aural distortion of the characters point of view. Allows hitchcock to build up meaning because of the sounds repeated use: sound motifs. Song included (miss up to date) are essential to the meaning of the scene - as his lust grows so does the pace of the music. Lyrics are realized in lm and song is then used to support alice"s sense of guilt (tune is repeated during her ight) Stability in industry- allowed for high productivity.
