SOCSCI 2UA3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Stimulus Control, Reinforcement, Broccoli
Document Summary
Reinforcement *know for midterm (de nition, negative vs. positive, natural vs. planned) How do we know reinforcement is happening because of the effect on behaviour. There is the principle of reinforcement then there is reinforcement as an intervention. Behaviour is happening so it has been reinforced vs. deliberate application of reinforcement to increase a behaviour. Turning on the light, eating and reading (for pleasure), nding money when walking. My niece or daughter staying in her bed for the night (doesn"t usually sleep in bed) I can also plan to reinforce behaviour with praise (ex. sharing with brother, good grades, completing work placement, being gentle, toileting) Can be used to teach new skills (or broadened existing skills) Learner"s preferences change (could be day to day, hour to hour, etc. ) Just like we can increase behaviour we want to see, we can increase behaviour we don"t want to see (whining) Any event/stimulus that: follows a behaviour, increases future probability of that behaviour.
