Women: told that they will be good mothers. Men: not told they will be good fathers. Therefore, they need a space to be themselves in order to deal with pressure to be a certain way. Important to build/earn the space yourself so you feel like you can be yourself there (uncontrolled by anyone else) Need some financial independence to have some freedom. Dictates how we relate to ourselves and others. Don"t need a ton of money, but can have too little or too much. Having an income allows a woman to be free. Conclusion: men have devoted energies to characterizing women = they"re angry/hateful of women. Author is angry about being inferior to men, but anger is not helpful/productive. Men so angry at women that it has touched how they think about women. Want women to feel inferior because they feel they need to be superior. About protecting themselves by feeling like they"re above others.
