SOCSCI 2CC3 Lecture 3: Children's View of their Contextualization Part 1
Document Summary
Module 3: children"s view of their contextualization part 1. This module explores how family is perceived throughout history by male and female researchers. Society does play a role in families, as men and women must come to a consensus on how the best way is to raise the next generation of adults. Conway notes a freudian interpretation: amongst cohort members, dominant males enjoyed sexual access to all females. Over time, the males viewed this behavior as counterproductive to human social life. This led to incest taboos, normative social boundaries and a set of patriarchal views. Female researchers define the pre-civilization period as a power struggle. They believe that men viewed women as having the ultimate power over life because they were able to give birth. Women had power over life and death, they determined if the group continued to exist as their giving birth allowed the group to continue to the next generation.
